CIDCO MD evaluates metro progress

The Navi Mumbai metro railway project was inaugurated at the hands of CM Prithviraj Chavan in May this year and, at that time, Chavan have asked CIDCO to complete the project as soon as possible, December 2013 to be precise. In order to speed up the work, CIDCO Managing Director Tanaji Satre on Monday visited all the places where the metro railway work is in progress along with project consultant Luis Berjer, contractors and the CIDCO engineers.

“The metro railway project work has been divided into four parts -- viaduct, stations, depot and systems. The viaduct work is in progress and the work will be completed on time, by June 2013. We have already studied about the locations, geographical conditions, places where pillars have to be installed and others essential things,” informed Satre.

Satre added, “Belapur to Kharghar Sector-14 route will have 143 pillars while Kharghar Sector-14 to Pendhar route will have 185 pillars. Contractors will have to give full attention while erecting these pillars. Since there was a shortage of sand, the progress work slowed down. But now, the work has picked up. For erecting pillars, river sand will be used. River sand of Vaitarna or Krishna has been proposed for the particular work.”

Satre revealed that they have held 23 meetings with consultants, contractors, engineers and all those workers who are part of this mega project so that work is not affected. “The quality of work should be up to the mark. There were problems like sand scarcity, heavy rains which affected the work. But now there is no problem and, therefore, we will have to work fast in order to achieve our deadline of completing the first phase in May 2014,” admitted Satre.

“CIDCO will try its level best to complete the Rs.2,000 crore mega metro railway project by May 2014, and for that we all have to buck up and work together,” concluded Satre.
